FEBRUARY 2004

IN THE CROW’S NEST AT MIAMI

The official Mirage Manufacturing newsletter

Welcome Tito and Denise S.

Tito Sanjurjo and his wife Denise are the new proud owners of GH37 Hull No. 7, which they will be keeping at the Marina del Sol in Kemah, Texas. Sanjurjo is CEO of a power generating company in the Dominican Republic, who maintains a home in Texas. “The boat attracts a lot of attention,” he said. “When we moved it to a new marina,  everyone was  dying to come on board and take a look inside.” Happy voyaging to you both.

The Ti-De looks like a tidy ship indeed. She’s Hull No. 7, built in ‘99

Dr. Tom brings bedside manner to Mirage

Tom Zavelson

Tom Zavelson, Mirage’s recently appointed director of customer service,  is new to Mirage but hardly new to boats. An avid sailor for years, he started with a yellow sunfish and eventually graduated to a Hunter 30. In the mid-90’s, seeking a smoother ride, he became Captain of the GaleForce – a Trawler of course. (The fact that the boat is an old Krogen lends credibility to Dr. Tom when he discusses the comparitive merits of the Great Harbour line.)

DR. TOM’S

Seabag

Each month, Mirage’s in- house medico, Dr. Tom Zavelson, will contribute a measured dose of medical advice for cruisers. This month it’s his list of most-often overlooked medical necesities, the paperwork. Here it is:

nPertinent medical records
nList of allergies
nX-rays
nECGs
nLaboratory test results
nList of medications with           doses
nPhysician letters, telephone   numbers, email addresses      etc.

Tom and Gail (his first and best mate for more than 35 years) have adventured to the Bahama Islands and various ports-of-call up and down the coasts of Florida and Georgia. Most weekends you’ll find them cruising around St. Augustine.  When docked, you can find Gail top-side enjoying the weather and Tom in the engine room taking things apart and putting them back together.

A former pediatrician, Tom dreamed of a post-retirement boat career, but Ship’s Doctor for the Disney Boat wasn’t exactly what he had in mind.  A longtime friend of Mirage, Tom is excited about working with the company. “Ken and I have had a relationship for more than 30 years, I’ve watched the company grow and I think they produce quality products. I’m really looking forward to this next phase of my life.”

Tom and Gail have two children who are both married and live nowhere near open water. Their three grandchildren Caitlin, Brandon and Anna – all under the age of five – have already been fitted for Docksiders.

One of Tom Zavelson’s duties will be to serve as contributor to Trawler Times, providing a monthy medical tip for cruisers under the heading of Dr. Tom’s Seabag.

Free magazines for FOM (Friends of Mirage)

World Publications this month launches a magazine dedicated to cruising under power. This is the same company that publishes Cruising World magazine, which many of you former sailors may remember with fondness. Power Cruising’s editors have promised that the new magazine will adapt Cruising World’s highly successful format. If they deliver on that promise, this new book will be a fine addition to the trawler community. That’s why Mirage has arranged for a couple thousand of its closest friends to receive the next eight issues free. There will be one each in February and October and six more in 2005. Feel free to email Trawler Times with any comments about this new magazine. If you don’t get the February issue it’s not because we don’t love you. We just don’t have your snail mail address. Email it to us and we’ll add you to the list.

kudos
for the
N37
Chesapeake Bay magazine writes, “The Great Harbour N37 is a merger between the trawler deck house and and the hull of a classic 1930s flush-deck cruiser.”  To read the entire review, click here.

We sell
two at
Miami
It’s cause for joyous celebration anytime we sell a boat show, let alone two. But that’s just what happened at the recently concluded Miami International Boat Show. We sold two N37’s, evidence of a growing economy and Mirage’s market standing.

Boat show poster: singles vs. twins

We spend so much time talking to customers in the engineroom of the Great Harbour N37 that we thought we’d put a poster in our trawler at the Miami Boat International Show this month.Click here to read Mirage’s twin-engine philosophy.
